Have you ever got a dog from a pet store? Chances are that pet store gets their puppies from puppy mills. The most horrifying place on earth for dogs in the entire world. Puppy mills are a growing problem that is all over the nation and should be stopped. When you get a puppy from any pet store do you ever wonder how it came here? It was probably born in a small cage, rusty wires, smell is disgusting, no light, and cold. Not a lot of Americans put a lot of thought of adopting from a shelter because they want a brand new little dog. Puppies are being used as profit but no one seems to care. Well I do.
Dogs that are in puppy mills are kept in horrible condition that not even rats would want to live there. Right now puppy mills aren’t illegal in America but keeping dogs in terrible condition is. Puppy mills can have as many puppies as they want as long as they have the special requirements that the USDA. The UDA are supposed to check in on the puppy mills to see if the dogs are in any harsh conditions but it’s rare if the USDA visits. The owner of the puppy mill don’t care about the dogs, only money. The dogs can be sometimes kept inside or out. They can die from the heat, cold, starvation, or disease. Female dogs will breed 6-8 times a year when they are only supposed to breed 2-5 times a year. Their only purpose is to be bred and raise their puppies, then they get bred again and your raise their puppies until they get old or sick. The owner of the puppy mill doesn’t want to waste money on taking the female dog to the vet to get put down, instead they just get a get the dog and shoot it on head. Puppy mills are usually found in the midwest but only half of the states are licensed by the government. These dogs are being bred for profit.
Why should you adopt a dog from your local animal shelter when you can get a brand new puppy from a pet store you may ask? Since he puppies are born in puppy mills and are raised there until they can stop drinking their mother's milk they may catch a harmful disease. When you buy a puppy from a pet store that gets them from puppy mills that pup would likely survive only for 12 weeks. Of Course the pet store owner won’t say that the puppy is sick because they just want to money! All they care is about the money they get by selling these puppies. I know you still want to save the puppies from the store but that just makes the owner of the pet store more happy if you are buying from the store. Dogs are not toys that you can buy from stores, they should be adopted. Adopting from your local animal shelter is the best way to get a new dog, and for them it’s like you are saving their life.
People are trying to stop puppy mills and there are many organizations that actually caught the publics attention. It may take some time to ban puppy mills but here are some solutions that you can do to prevent puppy mills. If you see something strange when people buy their dogs from a pet store like if they get sick just report it to the police and Humane Society. Just remember to adopt dogs at a shelter and not expensive pure breeds from a pet store. This will make a big difference and it will encourage others to take a stand about this problem.
In conclusion, you should take a part of this action and help us stop puppy mills for good. Any small thing will make a big difference and can put a stop in puppy mills. Just imagine puppies are suffering and crying to get out of this place. When you look at that adorable dog in that pet store just think of their mother in a cramped up cage for her whole life producing more adorable puppies just like that one. It’s animal cruelty, it’s sick, it’s cruel and we have to put a stop to this.
